Tiger Topping Pavin's List? I Doubt It.

Following Sunday's conclusion to the 92nd PGA Championship, there was so much to talk about. From the playoff between champion Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson, the Dustin Johnson and his second near-miss of the year, there was enough blog fodder to last a full week. The one tidbit that caught my attention, though, was Tiger Woods' hopes for a Ryder Cup berth and captain Corey Pavin's inability to make a decision on the matter.
I don't like being lead-on and I'm convinced Pavin has already decided how he'll use his captain's picks and I really don't think
Tiger is at the top of that list.
Think about it like this: say to go in and get fitted for a new driver and you absolutely love it. You don't exactly hit it well at the range, but everything looks good on paper according to the launch monitors, so the potential is there. It's the best driver you've tested. For some reason, though, you decide not to buy it on the spot. Now, as you go home and let the decision churn, you keep thinking about one of the drivers that you actually hit well while you at the range and think you might want to go with one of them. The longer you drag out the decision, the more likely you are to go with the driver that had the most instant gratification.
For Corey Pavin, Tiger is the best driver on paper, he's just not the best right now. If he were going to pick Tiger, he would have done it weeks ago and he would have told us about it.
Sorry Tiger, but I don't see you getting the call to join the team at Celtic Manor. Take that time, focus on your game and get ready for 2011.
