British Open Round 1: A Star-Studded Leaderboard

Jul 14

Let me preface this by saying I had EVERY intention of getting up uber-early to watch the British Open live on television before heading into the office. That didn't happen, and I was kicking myself after looking at the scoreboard after rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

Rory.

Tiger.

DALY!

Those are three names that, for one reason or another, pique my interest.  I like seeing the young guns get in a position to challenge; I want to know when Tiger will be Tiger again; and Daly, well he's just pure entertainment on the golf course (did you see those paisley pants) and is playing the ONE COURSE that really suits his bombs-away approach to the game.  Now they're all three on the leaderboard!

I realize that it was just one day and that all three of these guys faced a kinder, gentler version of St. Andrews than the players with afternoon tee times.  But all three were able to take advantage and get an edge on the rest of the field.  Will that continue tomorrow or will they face high winds and sideways rain?

I've got no idea.  I DO know, that Friday will setup to be a big day of golf and that I'll be keeping my finger off the snooze button.

Let me know how you think round two is likely to play out!

Golf Writer

In addition to owning Northwest Golf Adventures, I've been writing golf and travel articles since 2000. My main focus has always been golf in the Pacific Northwest, but I've had stories appear in association magazines across the country, several national publications and on radio and television. I'm always looking for great stories to write about!
