USGA continues to mold Chambers Bay

The next five years will be busy ones for Chambers Bay.  The site of the 2010 US Amateur and the 2015 US Open will undergo many changes as the USGA continues to prepare it to challenge the world's best golfers.

Just last week, Chambers Bay released an update on the changes being made, as well as their progress.  So far, everything looks great to the eyes of those at the USGA.

"We're very pleased by the progress that has been made to date," said Mike Dave, Senior Director of Rules and Competitions for the USGA.  "These visits give us great insight into the golf course architecture and fabulous championship set-up opportunities at Chambers Bay."

So far, the USGA has given Pierce County $1 million to use toward improvements and a to add a 17-acre practice facility to the property.  Nine tee areas have been improved and the approach around the fourth green has been altered.

By the time the Amateur rolls around next year, the course will be firm and fast.  The all-fescue surfaces will give the world's best amateur players a different experience that they're likely to never forget.

If you haven't yet had the chance, make the trip to Chambers Bay and play a round.  It'll give you a new perspective on the US Open when it finally arrives in the Northwest for the first time.

In addition to owning Northwest Golf Adventures, I've been writing golf and travel articles since 2000. My main focus has always been golf in the Pacific Northwest, but I've had stories appear in association magazines across the country, several national publications and on radio and television. I'm always looking for great stories to write about!
